Film in a national monument

A written application (by post, e-mail or fax) must be sent to the “Service des locations-tournage”. The application will be forwarded to the appropriate person at the relevant monument.

What documents should I add to my application?

Once contact has been made, you must provide the following details to support your application:

  • Required venue (name or characteristics of the venue required),
  • Subject of the filming (film, advertisement, etc),
  • The application form, downloaded in www.monuments-nationaux.fr , planned dates and duration of the shoot, including, if appropriate, the installation and removal of equipment,
  • Technical dossier (number of participants, detailed information on the equipment and technical installations to be used etc.),
  • Synopsis or storyboard showing the sequence or scene to be shot at the chosen location,
  • Insurance coverage for all risks and, where applicable, professional liability

When should I apply?

It is recommended that you apply as early as possible, in view of the constraints linked to running the monuments and their public opening hours.

For shoots requiring extensive fittings and equipment, applications must be made at least one month before shooting is due to begin.

What terms and conditions apply?

The administrative specifications giving the terms and conditions relating to the granting of authorisations for film and photographic shoots (payment of fees, cancellation, modification of dates, etc) can be downloaded from www.monuments-nationaux.fr

Specific terms concerning sacred buildings

Before applying to the Centre des monuments nationaux, it is necessary to obtain the authorisation of the clergy beforehand. Access to the monument is also submitted to the regulations of the “architecte des bâtiments de France”, curator of the building (consult the list on the internet site www.culture.gouv.fr ).
